Woman’s club plans luncheon and style show
At its March meeting, the Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s club hosted members of the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International women’s social, cultural and service organization for a salad and dessert supper at the First Christian Family Life Center.
The evening’s program included a talk by local author K. Melissa Burton, who described her historical children’s books and her latest title, “With Purpose and Promise.”

Legion Post hosts 8th District meeting
American Legion Post 34 and Auxiliary hosted the 8th District meeting March 20, the post announced in a news release.
The 8th District is one of 11 in Kentucky and includes Perryville, Danville, Stanford, Nicholasville, Harrodsburg, Richmond, Berea, Shelbyville, Lancaster, Liberty and Lawrenceburg.

Taylor inducted into Alabama school hall of fame
A former resident of Lawrenceburg has been inducted posthumously into the Pleasant Valley Hall of Fame in Jacksonville, Ala.
Ruth Boggs Taylor, a teacher at Pleasant Valley High School, died in the fall of 2009.
She was inducted into the hall of fame because she was an exceptional teacher, said her sister, Margie B. Stratton. Her students excelled each year.
A graduate of Anderson High School, she worked awhile at Universal Fasteners. She then married Ralph Taylor and they moved to his home state of Alabama, where they both attended Union College.

Toll joins Anderson Realty
Dee Toll has joined the staff of Anderson Realty, the real estate agency announced.
“We’re very pleased to have Dee Toll join our team,” said company owner Connie Blackwell. “Her experience in the loan process and assisting buyers in the pre-approval process complements our existing capabilities. We expect to increase the amount of business we do in that area.”
Toll has been a real estate agent since 2004.

Legion sponsors health fair, benefits assistance
American Legion Post 34 will sponsor a health fair on Thursday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the post.
The Veterans Administration Hospital from Lexington will enroll new patients and perform blood pressure checks.
Also, the state officer will be available to file claims for compensation and pensions for veterans and wives of deceased veterans.
“Please stop by and check out your benefits,” organizers said in a news release.
Also at the fair will be the department’s commander and membership chairman for the state.

Four Roses, with hint of roses

Bourbon enthusiasts will truly “smell the roses” when Four Roses’ 2011 limited edition single barrel bourbon hits the shelves this spring, according to a news release from Four Roses.
Master Distiller Jim Rutledge specially selected a 12-year-old bourbon that uses Four Roses’ recipe coded OBSQ, one of 10 uniquely handcrafted bourbon recipes produced by the Lawrenceburg-based distillery.

Lovers Leap named Derby Festival wine
Lovers Leap Vineyards and Winery announced last week that it is the official Kentucky Derby Festival wine for 2011.
The announcement came five days before the winery was notified that five of its wines were awarded medals at the 2011 Kentucky Derby Festival Competition. It won gold for its 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, silver for its Merlot, Riesling and Norton (Cynthiana) and bronze for Vidal Blanc.

‘Rupp’ to make appearance at Ward
Legendary University of Kentucky basketball coach Adolph Rupp will speak at 7 p.m. April 14 in the library at Emma B. Ward Elementary School.
Well, sort of.
Of course Rupp is long gone, but thanks to a presentation sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council, Edward B. Smith will portray Adolph Rupp for Kentucky Chautauqua.
Admission is free.
A Kentucky native, Smith earned a Ph.D. in performance studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and currently teaches theater and film classes at Georgetown College, where he is an associate professor.

Court Appointed Special Advocates swears in new 18 new volunteers
Franklin and Anderson County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) celebrated the swearing in of new volunteers March 15.
With over 40 guests in attendance, this event recognized the 18 community members that recently completed their training to become volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children in Franklin and Anderson County. Hope Community Church was decorated with blue pinwheels in recognition of the upcoming National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.
