Bluegrass Community and Technical College students Matthew W. Savoie, Steven Paul Coates, Heather Sparks Hacker and Charles L. Burton, all of Lawrenceburg, were selected 2011 Outstanding Program Graduates of their degree programs, according to a news release.
Faculty members select one student from each of the BCTC programs as an Outstanding Program Graduate. The distinction recognizes students who have exhibited strong leadership, exceeded criteria and expectations in their degree program, and demonstrated academic excellence.

GED graduates received their degrees on June 6 at the 19th annual GED graduation ceremony in the Anderson County Middle School.
About 15 graduates walked across the stage, some choosing to say a few words about the influence of their family, friends and instructors in receiving their degree.
“I stand before you today, a graduated man,” said Phillip Addison, who received national adult education honors.

University of the Cumberlands inducted Taylor Gillis of Lawrenceburg into the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society during the 52nd Honors Day Convocation on April 25.
Gillis was also honored with the Honors award, given to students who maintain a 3.70 GPA.

Scholarship grants totaling $100,000 for academic year 2011-12 have been made to 36 students, 32 of whom were selected by the selection committee of the Anderson County Scholarship Fund.
The remaining four were selected by The United Methodist Church Scholarship Committee of Lawrenceburg, according to a news release.
Awards of $3,000 each were made to 32 students by the selection committee, while awards totaling $4,000 were divided equally among the four students selected by The United Methodist Church Scholarship Committee.

Heather Norton of Lawrenceburg received the 2011 Public Health award and was named a presidential and Hutton Scholar during an honors day convocation at the University of the Cumberlands, the school announced.
A daughter of Tim and Natalie Norton, she has a 3.7 GPA and has made the school’s dean’s list in six of seven semesters.
She was also named an honor student for attaining a minimum 3.7 cumulative standing. While at UC, she “faithfully” served as a resident assistant and senior resident assistant, the school announced.
