Weight-The Reality Series begins in December, just in time for the holiday season.
During this time of year, the temptation to overeat or select less healthy foods presents itself at every social gathering and frequently at your workplace. Just avoiding weight gain is a success at this time of year.
The information below comes from publications used in Weight-The Reality Series-Becoming Weight Wise. The seven session class will not only provide information on weight management but also support from the group, new recipes and cooking skills.

Now that we have fallen back in time, so to speak, our biological clocks are adjusting, albeit slowly. My normal wake up hour has shifted from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
It should have gone the other way, but it never does in the winter. The wildlife on the farm seem to follow the same routine.
Since the sun sleeps in a little longer, so do the birds and other critters, including us. I miss the flurry of activity in the yard during those early hours.

In the post-election buzz, Kentucky marijuana tourism probably didn’t cross your mind.
But the media, having turned its gaze away from analyzing every aspect of the presidential race, is starting to refocus on a measure recently passed in Colorado and Washington — legal recreational marijuana.
An amendment that Kentuckians may be voting on sooner than you think.

Happy Halloween! I think October came in on a skateboard and went out on a jet pack! Time is just flying by and the next two months may well be the same way. That said, didn’t we have a beautiful St. Luke’s Little Summer! I so wanted to play hooky from work and be outside. Now it’s cold again! Don’t worry though, we should have one more warm spell, known as Indian Summer, before Thanksgiving.

The 75th Anniversary of the Anderson County Extension Homemakers was celebrated this week. Usually this column is focused on research based education. I’m not sure there can be any more evidence that community education is successful than looking at the accomplishments of the Extension Homemakers. I’m very proud of their ability to sustain their intellectual interest and the practical application of so many lessons which they have had over the last 75 years.

I just love to learn things, and I learn a lot from listening to radio programs. I just finished listening to a program called Fresh Air on NPR (on 10-18-12) on the road home tonight and I have to share!. It featured an author who’s book is titled Alone Together and it really made me think!

It is property tax time once again and I would like to take this opportunity to help the taxpayers better understand how the property tax system works.
Property taxes follow a set calendar and procedures which we all, as taxpayers, should be aware.

“4 Day Throw Away” is a great media program and app for protecting yourself from bad leftovers.
This reliable program is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
I learned about it at a recent professional conference, The National Association of Extension Family and Consumer Science Agents.
Three myths about food safety and leftovers need to be discarded. Food that looks, smells, and tastes OK is safe to eat. This is false. Bacteria may still be present.

You know it’s fall when your laundry pile doubles in a week!
So far, the mercury has dropped to a low of 24 here at the farm. This being Kentucky, the next morning it was 42. I think Mother Nature gets dyslexic in the fall. The temperatures are going to waffle back and forth between mild to Brrrrr, until it’s all Brrrr. That means wearing layers of clothing to keep from shivering. Hence, the doubling of the pile. Thankfully, I just made eight gallons of laundry soap!
