Hunters have until midnight, Monday, April 30 to apply for a Kentucky elk hunt. The quota hunt drawing for an elk permit is open to residents and non-residents.
Kentucky will issue 900 general quota hunt permits this year, an increase of 100 permits over the 2011 season. Kentucky's elk herd is expected to surpass 10,000 animals by fall.

The weather is finally starting to turn warmer and spring is in the air. Many people are looking forward to doing some fishing and trying to rid themselves of cabin fever.
While spring is a fine time to do some fishing, with the arrival of spring also comes the time of year that turkey hunters have looked forward to since the distant gobbles of last spring.

It's the mouth that gets you.
You hook a huge largemouth bass and all you can see is a giant, angry shaking mouth.
The size of the mouth lets you know this bass is one of the top ones you've ever hooked. You realize the giant, gaping shaking bucket with your lure impaled in it is the biggest you've seen. This can cause dry mouth, uncontrollable shaking and panic.

A popular fishing access to Elkhorn Creek in Franklin County is closing indefinitely due to the start of a major expansion project at Pfeiffer Fish Hatchery, according to a news release.
Walk-in access to the creek from the hatchery grounds will close due to heavy construction equipment being moved onto the property for the start of a $5 million expansion project. Public tours of the hatchery, which is located off Indian Gap Road in northern Franklin County, have been suspended.

I know it feels great outside the last several weeks but spring is here at least two to three weeks too early thanks to not much winter and a whole lot of rain. Grass and weeds are shooting up around my place nearly as fast as the gas prices.
