Football went from the days of the Fearsome Foursome to Peyton Manning-Marvin Harrison and back Friday.
On a night when Anderson County honored the 1968 Central Kentucky Conference champions - "We gave up just 70 points in 11 games," those Bearcats like to say - in a pre-game ceremony, the current Bearcats and Grant County put on a can-you-top-this first half of offensive pyrotechnics but it was an old-fashioned, control-the-line defense that turned a video game look-alike into a 58-21 Anderson rout.

Anderson football game with J-town rescheduled
Updated Thursday, Sept. 18, 11 p.m.
Anderson County High School athletic director Rick Sallee has announced that the Bearcats football game with Jeffersontown, originally scheduled for Sept. 19, has been rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 26 in Jeffersontown.
Several teams with district games affected by Sunday's windstorm have shuffled schedules, allowing the Anderson-Jeffersontown game to be played next week. See the Sept. 24 edition of The Anderson News for a complete report.

Introducing The Lineup
A new feature on The Anderson News sports page this week is simply called "The Lineup." Found on Page B2, The Lineup lists as many scores, statistics and standings as possible from the wide myriad of sports happenings in Anderson County in a single glance. The Lineup includes youth soccer scores and goes all the way through college sports scores of teams that include Anderson County residents.

Second half explosion lifts Bearcats in district opener
Jacob Russell and Grant Cox connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass on Anderson County's first play of the game, but it was a second half explosion that lifted the Bearcats to a 58-21 win over visiting Grant County Friday night.
Russell, who completed 14 of 18 passes for 247 yards, teamed up with Cox for two more first half scores, then arced a throw over the Grant defense to Dustin Combs on Anderson's first series of the second half that put the Bearcats up 37-21 and started the second half blitz.

Country boys rule
The declaration that a country boy can survive was really old news to Anderson County residents.
Thirteen years before Hank Williams made millions off that statement, a group of Anderson County country boys did not just survive. They excelled.
And when the city boys came to town, those country boys more than survived. They dominated.
It was Sept. 20, 1968.

Peach's post-game comments echo '68 Cats' attitudes
Watching Anderson County slosh through the first half of Friday's football game at West Jessamine, it was almost eerie to think of those words of wisdom that greeted people who drove down Broadway last week.
I hear and I forget.
I was not privy to what Bearcat coach Mark Peach said to his team last week, but I would have bet money that he talked repeatedly about West Jessamine being better than the team Anderson drubbed 58-0 a year ago. I would bet he tried to keep his team from looking ahead to this week's district game.

Attitude adjustment
NICHOLASVILLE - Even though his Anderson County football team allowed West Jessamine just 28 second half yards Friday, Mark Peach insisted neither he nor his coaching staff made any significant adjustments during intermission.
"We didn't change a thing," he said.
Well, maybe. The x's and o's stayed the same at least, but there was a change.
"He and coach (Duane) Hammons tried getting under our skin a little bit," smiled running back B.J. Robinson.

Cats take sudden death; Bussell individual winner
One could have forgiven Anderson County if the Bearcats had violated golf etiquette Saturday.
After all, it is not every day that a team wins its conference tournament.
But after Jade Martin sank a put for par on the No. 1 hole at Wild Turkey Trace, the Bearcats had won a sudden death playoff to be crowned Central Kentucky Conference tournament champs for the first time since the conference was reborn several years ago. Martin's putt simply clinched what a pair of playoff birdies is supposed to do.

GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER: Lady Bearcats defeat Tates Creek
Madison Carter scored a pair of first half goals and Rebecca Radcliffe turned in one of her finest games ever in the net as 21st-ranked Anderson County whipped No. 20 Tates Creek 3-0 in girls' soccer action Monday in Lexington.

Bearcats defeat West Jessamine
NICHOLASVILLE -- B.J. Robinson's 78-yard scoring run one minute before halftime propelled Anderson County to a 35-12 win over host West Jessamine Friday night.
Robinson's sprit down the left sideline energized a heavily favored but lethargic Anderson team that was clinging to a 14-12 lead.
Robinson's jaunt was the first of his two touchdowns. The senior led Anderson with 140 yards rushing on 15 carries.
"That run totally changed the complexion of the game," said Anderson coach Mark Peach.
