LOUISVILLE – To someone raised in the ESPN generation, it might seem strange that a high school basketball game played on a Saturday morning means as much to Jimmy Dan Conner as delaying Bobby Knight's first national championship by a year.

Basketball fans often talk about the “What ifs?” in their sport.
Like “What if Mike Casey had not broken his leg in the summer before his senior year? Would a team of Dan Issel, Mike Pratt and Mike Casey have been unstoppable in 1970?”
Or “What if Terry Howard had remained perfect at the free throw line? Would Kentucky and Louisville have played for the national championship in 1975?”

No school in Anderson County has never won a state high school basketball championship recognized by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
However, the girls' basketball team at Lawrenceburg Colored High School was a state champion, according to local realtor John Cunningham.
The team included Cunningham's mother, Gertrude Bean Cunningham. He says that another member of the team was Mary Harris Gill. Cunningham says that all of the team members are now deceased.
