Victor Brown never claimed to be a great athlete. “I was the only boy from Lawrenceburg that didn't play basketball,” smiles Brown, who graduated from Lincoln Institute in 1959. “Those teams were just so good.”

The only thing certain about picking the best ever in Anderson County basketball history is that we did not make room for enough players on the teams. Twenty boys players over 100 years? Ten girls since 1975?
It is practically impossible to do so, especially the way basketball has changed over time.

The Anderson County boys' basketball team figures to be a work in progress during the 2010-11 season, but get a chance to go against live competition on Tuesday, Nov. 30 when the Bearcats travel to Casey County.
Some printed schedules have listed the game as being played on Monday, but Anderson coach Glen Drury says the correct date is Tuesday. “We had a late change of the date but the schedules had already been printed,” he said.

Ralph Beard or John Wall?
Really, who was the better guard? Was it Beard, the leader of Kentucky's Fabulous Five of the 1947 and 1948, or Wall, who did things on the basketball court never before seen in Lexington?
Wall's year in Lexington might have done as much to educate fans who had never seen Beard – virtually everyone – due to several TV outlets doing stories on the comparison and showing 63-year-old film of Beard shooting from well out on the floor or dominating a defense.

To the editor:
My wife and I were recently in Anderson County on a short vacation and family history search. William Henry Bell was a great-great-grandfather of my wife, and I understand there may still be some of the Bells living in the area.
We greatly enjoyed our visit and are appreciative of the kindnesses and assistance we received from the people who work at the library and city hall.
The local bakery was a delightful place and we enjoyed strolling Main Street.
