The Anderson County Middle School basketball teams had good showings in the Capital City Classic, held at Elkhorn Middle School last week. The Anderson sixth- and eighth-grade teams took second place in their respective brackets.
The eighth-graders lost to Frankfort, then defeated Louisville Crosby, Elkhorn and Lexington Traditional to get to the championship game, where they fell to Southern Middle School, of Pulaski County, 35-24. The eighth grade Mustangs are now 13-3 on the year.

Harlan County scored on a layup with 4.5 seconds to play in overtime to defeat Anderson County 61-60 in the Sayre Spartan Holiday Classic Thursday night in Lexington.
Anderson had one final chance when Erik Newton drove the length of the court then passed to Seth Carmichael on a wing but Harlan County blocked the shot.
Harlan won the round-robin affair with Anderson finishing second. Somerset upset Sayre for third place in the tourney.
