On behalf of all members of American Legion Post No. 34 and Auxiliary Unit No. 34, I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to Open Bible Church (Jeff Tyler, pastor), Family Worship Center (Tony Andrade, pastor) and New Life Christian Church (Vern Huber, pastor) and the respective members of those churches in their generous recognition of all veterans by providing a delicious meal for those in attendance at the Veterans Day ceremony which took place on the Fairgrounds on Nov. 7.

It’s more than a bit ironic that the percentage of elected public officials who attended Sunday’s Veterans Day ceremony mirrors almost exactly the survival rate of a local vet’s horrifying experience in Korea.
Get this: There were 40 or so people running for public office on the Nov. 2 ballot, and four (County Clerk Jason Denny, Mayor Edwinna Baker, Jailer Joani Clark and City Councilman Larry Giles) attended the ceremony, which equals around 10 percent.

Saffell to host Veterans Day celebration
Saffell Street Elementary School will host a Veterans Day celebration on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m.
The school is collaborating with the Anderson County High School band, which will perform during the event.
Three teachers at the school are veterans and will speak during the celebration.
Saffell’s all-district honors choir members will also perform.
Veterans, their families and other community members are invited to attend.
