‘Duck Dynasty’ stars to appear in Lexington

-A A +A

For the Frankfort Christian Academy, it’s being called a “miracle.”
For folks smitten with Uncle Si, Phil, Willie and the rest of the Robertson clan from the smash hit TV show “Duck Dynasty,” getting a chance to see several of the show’s stars Saturday in Lexington may not be a miracle, but it’s pretty darn close.
Willie, his mom Miss Kay, his wife Korie, their children John Luke and Sadie along with Willie’s older brother, Alan, will appear at Rupp Arena on Saturday at 3 p.m. to help raise funds for the school’s capital campaign.
Principal Kim Burgess said the funds will be used for a new heat and air conditioning system for the school’s new gymnasium, complete the locker rooms and to construct a new state-of-the-art science lab.
“We’re hoping this one event will make all of this happen for us,” Burgess said Friday afternoon, just an hour before the loveable Miss Kay was scheduled to surprise students by calling in during a pep rally. Miss Kay had to cancel, but her son Alan did call and speak to students by phone.
Burgess said landing the rock-star famous family for the fundraiser was an incredible feat pulled off by a group of “creative” parents who somehow got in touch with the Robertsons.
“They get 600 offers a day to make appearances,” Burgess said. “For us to be selected is truly a miracle.”
“All of this is really God’s blessing.”
Hudson Pittman, one of a dozen or so Lawrenceburg children who attend the school, wore her pink “Quack Attack” T-shirt the day before the school’s mass assembly, said she can’t pick a favorite episode of the reality TV show. She said her family was going to try to go to the Sept. 29 event, but hoped she would win tickets in a drawing anyway.
“I like the one where Si dresses up and acts like the mannequin is his girlfriend,” Hudson Uebel said.
