The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 34 celebrated the Fourth of July by inviting veterans and other parade participants to the Legion clubhouse for hot dogs, chips, cookies and soft drinks prior to the start of the parade.
Unit members decorated three 16-foot trailers with patriotic decorations for veterans and American Legion family members to ride on in the parade.
Shirley Thornberry “Department of Kentucky Auxiliary Woman of the Year” rode atop a convertible driven by Larry Kyle.
Trailers were provided by Gritton Sales and Service with Danny Curtsinger as the driver, Crammer’s Lawn Care with George Cummins Jr. as the driver and also SK Mowing and Landscaping driven by Chris Dillon of Ace Hardware.
When the parade completed the tour through town the veterans gathered at Lawrenceburg Green. Each veteran came to the microphone and spoke about where they served, which war and the number of years of service.
American Legion Auxiliary president Betty Butler thanked everyone for attending and praised all our veterans.
Unit 34 members as well as our veterans look forward each year to the parade and recognition of their service.
