Anderson County track athletes Alorra Sims and Carley Duncan have moved into national qualifying rounds for the AAU Junior Olympics. The qualifying round is scheduled to be held this weekend in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with the national finals set for the end of July in Des Moines, Iowa.

Both had outstanding days at the AAU state meet, held in Elizabethtown on June 21.

Sims, competing in the girls' 15-16 age group, placed second in the triple jump with an effort of 35 feet, 2 inches. That jump qualified Sims, who is ranked 11th nationally in her age group, for the AAU national meet.

Sims placed third in the Long Jump with a 16-11 effort making her a national qualifier. She will also be competing in the modern heptathalon at the national event.

Sims competes for the Kentucky Elite club, based in Elizabethtown.

Duncan, also moved to the national qualifying meet in the 13-year-old division after placing first at the state in the 100-meter hurdles covering the distance in 19.89 seconds. She was second in the long jump (12-07) and fourth in the 200-meter dash with a 31.18 time.
