Roll past Franklin 8-0

By John Herndon

FRANKFORT – Taylor Clark scored four goals in seven minutes to power a first-half explosion that propelled Anerson County to a berth in the Region 13 Tournament, to be played next week.

Anderson registered an 8-0 win over Franklin County in the 25th District Tournament semi-finals Thursday night at Frankfort's Sower Soccer Complex.

Clark scored her four goals between the 17th and 24th minutes and boosted Anderson to a 6-0 lead. Madison Carter had scored a pair of early goals, the second of which seemed to defleate the Franklin defenders. Elizabeth Mason also added a goal before the break and one after.

Anderson coach Jason Earnest substitued freely in the second half before the contest was halted with 8:17 to go due to the deteriorating condition of the playing field.

Anderson will now play old nemesis Woodford County, which defeated Western Hills 10-0 in the first game of the evening. Woodford boasts a terrific player in all-stater Katrina Ott and is ranked ninth in the statewide coaches' poll released Tuesday. Anderson is ranked 19th.

“Woodford has owned this district forever,” said Anderson coach Jason Earnest. The Lady Yellow Jackets have won four of the five district crowns awarded since the realignment of 2004. Anderson broke the string in 2006, when Woodford was barred from post-season because of playing too man y games.

“They are very good,” Earnest said. “They will be very well prepared. We are going ot have to play very well to beat them.”

Kickoff for the district championship game is 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Both teams advance to next week's regional tournament, to be held at the 26th District winner.

A complete report will appear in the Oct. 21 edition of The Anderson News.
