Atheists spreading message of nothing

-A A +A

By Jess Thompson

The atheists are recruiting.
Let me explain. I absolutely love the Kentucky State Fair. It is something I typically never miss. The weird food, awesome displays of agriculture, the maze of flea market trinkets, etc.
One thing that absolutely blew my mind this year was a sad and unusual booth I encountered. I was walking by this unattended booth and stopped as it had a statue of Mark Twain, and the back wall was covered with posters of celebrities.
Confused, I looked on the table at the booth and a flier was lying there titled “American Atheists Leading The Way.” About that time an older gentlemen approached me and asked me if I knew Bruce Lee, Mark Twain and Jodie Foster (among others) were all atheists, and so was he. We had a brief conversation where I explained to him Jesus the Son of God came and died for him.
The man, of course told, me I was wrong.
Oh well. But afterward I began to think of how powerful the devil is and couldn’t remember seeing any church booths at the fair.
I took one of these atheist flyers and it compares Christianity to cancer. I mean, wow! These guys are actually evangelizing faith in nothing. What an uninspiring message to share for sure.
Then the question is posed as to what we are doing as Christians to spread the inspired word of God? The last words Jesus spoke before he ascended to heaven were “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.” Matthew 28:19.
We have all heard the story of the frog being placed in lukewarm water, and the temperature being gradually increased until the frog is cooked. All that has to happen for Satan to win is for well-meaning Christians to sit back and do nothing. American freedom is based on religious tolerance. It was never meant to allow the values of other cultures to replace the Judeo-Christian values on which this country was established.
When did we become so politically correct?
When did the greatest nation ever established on this earth become a debtor nation to communist China? When is enough, enough?
When do we as believers begin to stand up for what we believe in and care about? Is it not enough to remove prayer from our schools, the Ten Commandments from our municipal buildings and for NBC to recently omit “one Nation under God” from our national pledge?
Again, the atheists are recruiting. Are you?
