The police officer gunned down in a shootout Saturday in Killeen, Texas, was the nephew of a Lawrenceburg business owner.
Danny Bowman, owner of Danny’s Barber Shop on Main Street, said Monday that he was about to board a plane to Texas, said the officer was his sister’s son, and that other than what he’d read online, he had few details about what occurred.
His nephew has been identified as Robert Hornsby, a father of two who responded to a 911 call about a man with a gun threatening to kill neighbors in an apartment complex, according to a report filed by United Press International.
Another officer was injured in the incident and the alleged gunman was killed during an exchange of gunfire with police, according to reports.
According to the Associated Press, Killeen tactical officers went to the apartment complex about midnight Saturday after a man was reported threatening people in the pool with a gun.
Bowman, a native of Wolfe County, said Hornsby lived in Texas for the majority of his life. He said his sister’s husband was the first to bring a Golden Corral restaurant franchise to Kentucky, before buying several of the restaurants and moving to Texas.
