Frederick wins state and national crowns, team is runner-up

The Anderson County High School archery team has had some great success in the last two weeks.


The team competed in the 2014 State Scholastic 3D Championship at Barren River State Resort Park on May 17. Scholastic 3D is where archers shoot at 3D animal targets in a natural setting. Archers utilized equipment that included compound bows, fixed pin sights and releases. Team members for the event were Ethan Steele, Michala Frederick, Cody Able, Bradley Wilson, Cameron Peyton, Zach Toles, Tylor Hughes and C.J. Dunaway.

The team, made up of the top five scorers, earned the runner-up spot in the competition.

Individual award winners for Anderson County were Michala Frederick as the high school girls' state champion and Ethan Steele, awarded third place in the high school boys' division.  

Archers from Anderson County Middle School also competed in the event. The team consisted of Becky Frederick, Makayela Lewis, Ethan Hawkins, Tyler Hawkins, Adam Steele, J. Tyler Herzog, Hunter Snow.  Ellie Steele from Robert B. Turner Elementary School competed in the traditional category and won third place in the elementary girls' division.

Both teams also competed in the National Scholastic 3D competition held in London, Ky. on May 30. This event was hosted by the Archery Shooters Association in conjunction with the T.R.U. Ball/Bear Archery ProAm held on May 30-June 1.

The high school team earned national runner-up honors. Michala Frederick backed up her state championship title with the National Scholastic 3D high school girls' championship.
