Anderson County took control early, then gradually pulled away for a 54-37 win over visiting Paul Laurence Dunbar in boys' basketball action Friday night.
Dunbar's only lead came at 5-4 and lasted just 38 seconds as the Bearcats won their 36th straight game at home and ran their season record to 15-5.
Allen Warford's steal and layup in the open court gave Anderson the lead for good at 7-5 with 4:20 left in the first quarter. While Anderson was never seriously threatened after the first quarter, it was an 8-0 run early in the third quarter that pushed Anderson's lead to 33-19 and put things away.
The lead reached as many as 19 points late in the contest.
“I thought our defense was excellent,” Anderson coach Glen Drury said. “Dunbar is a much better team than their record (2-20). They are very athletic but very young.”
Jacob Russell led all scorers with 26 points, many coming in heavy traffic. Warford added 12 points. Bryce With led Dunbar with 14 points.
Anderson returns to action Saturday night at regional foe Grant County.
Woodford upsets Lady Bearcats
