Bearcats have busy weekend

Anderson County’s boys’ basketball team should have a strong test Friday night when the Bearcats travel to longtime rival Mercer County.

While Anderson would be considered a solid favorite over the Titans, this is one of those series where little matters before the game is played.

A year ago, Mercer finished just 15-14, but scared the socks off Anderson before the Bearcats took a 65-62 win. Mercer returns many of those players and coach Nelson Cundiff is back on the sideline after being seriously injured in an auto accident last fall. Mercer showed it means business right off the bat when the Titans defeated McCreary Central, the 12th Region favorite, in the season opener. Mercer also has a close loss to Wayne County.

Saturday, the Bearcats host Gallatin County, a dangerous guard-oriented team led by Zac Jones. Tipoff for all games this week is at 7:30 for the varsity, 6 p.m. for junior varsity.
