NEW CASTLE -- Anderson County limited Owen County to nine second half points as the Bearcats posted a 45-28 win in an Eighth Region tournament semifinal game Monday night at Henry County High School.
Trailing a dangerous club 19-17 at the half, Anderson scored the first 12 points of the third quarter to virtually stamp their ticket to the regional championship game.
Allen Warford, playing through the grief of his grandfather's death over the weekend, came up with a steal on an out of bounds play that put Anderson up 25-19 and deflated Owen. Warford also came up with a huge basket to end the third quarter.
“Allen Warford was the player of the game,” said Anderson coach Glen Drury.
Jacob Russell led Anderson with 14 points while C.J. Penny scored 11. Owen had no one score over six points.
Anderson, now 23-5, will play Shelby County Tuesday night at 7 p.m. for the right to go to the Sweet 16. Shelby defeated Henry County 57-40 in the second semi-final. It will be the third meeting for the Bearcats and Rockets this year. Anderson won the first two by a total of 10 points.
