NEW CASTLE - Anderson County pitching gave up just two hits as the Bearcats rolled to a 4-0 win over Gallatin County in the first round of the Eighth Region baseball tournament Monday at Henry County High School.

Bearcat starter Jacob Brown went five innings to get the win, while Jeremy Turpin and Jacob Russell each threw a scoreless inning in relief.

Anderson plated a pair of runs in the first inning when Brown singled in Turpin, then perfectly executed a double steal with Russell to put Anderson up 2-0.

Brown, Ryan Pike and Luke Hawkins each had 2 hits for the Bearcats, who improved to 19-15 and won their first regional tournament game since 2004.

Anderson had several scoring chances nullified by base-running gaffes.

The Bearcats move on to play North Oldham in Tuesday's second semifinal at 8 p.m. North Oldham defeated Grant County 8-1 in another first round game Monday.

We are going to have to hit the ball against them, said Anderson coach L.W. Barnes, who has not tipped his hand concerning his starting pitcher. We have everybody but Brown available to pitch.

Other first round action saw Henry County upset Shelby County 6-5 and Oldham County beat Simon Kenton 6-3.
