Late blitz dooms Lady Bearcats in Lexington Catholic tourney

The Anderson County boys' basketball team pulled a huge upset when the Bearcats defeated Miami (Fla.) Senior, 58-54, in the KFC/Arby's Holiday Classic consolation round at McCreary Central.

Anderson raced to a 15-point lead early, then made the plays down the stretch after Miami Senior cut the lead to one. No other details were available at press time. The Bearcats also defeated Clearwater (Fla.) Calvary Christian but lost to a pair of Kentucky teams, Wayne County and McCreary Central, in the tournament.

The Bearcats return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 28 when they play Lexington Sayre in the Sayre Holiday Classic.

Lady Bearcats fall to mountain power

Perry Central broke open a close game with a 12-0 run midway through the fourth quarter on its way to a 74-58 win in Republic Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic on Wednesday. The teams had battled on virtually even terms with Perry Central holding a 55-51 lead when the Lady Commodores erupted.  All-stater Kendall Noble led Perry Central with 35 points and Kayla Rankin added 28.

Both Anderson County High School basketball teams rallied from large deficits to post Christmas tournament victories on Tuesday.

The Lady Bearcats overcame an early 14-2 deficit to beat Newport Central Catholic in the Republic Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic High School. They will play mountain power Perry County Central, a team listed in some Top 10 listings, at 2:30 Wednesday.

The Bearcats trailed Calvary Christian, of Clearwater, Fla., 36-20 at halftime in the Arby's/KFC Classic at McCreary Central, but came back for a 64-63 win. The Bearcats will play McCreary at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
