A flag retirement ceremony conducted by Lawrenceburg Boy Scout Troop 37 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, the Troop announced.
The ceremony will be conducted in front of the Veterans Wall of Honor, located in front of the Healing Field at the American Legion Park on Broadway, according to a news release
The ceremony is open to the public, and those who wish to retire flags that are worn, torn or no longer serviceable are asked to arrive by 6:30 p.m.
Flags can also be dropped off at Ace Hardware through June 13.
“Our flag stands as a monument of freedom for millions of Americans and others around the world, and when it becomes faded, torn or worn and no longer serviceable to represent our country, it should be retired and replaced,” said Chris Anderson, senior patrol leader for Troop 37.
The ceremony marks the 96th anniversary of former president Woodrow Wilson’s proclamation of a national Flag Day, according to a news release.
