Anderson County held off a determined Owen County team, 50-47, in the first round of the boys' Eighth Region Tournament at Henry County High School Monday night.

Anderson led by as many as nine points in the first half but entered the fourth quarter tied at 40. Owen edged ahead twice in the fourth quarter but with 1:45 to play, Luke Mann scored the go-ahead basket after a perfect pass from Ross Cox that made it 48-46. Owen pulled within a point after a free throw, but after Jay Smith missed the front end of a bonus with 19 seconds left, Owen's 6-foot-6 Carson Williams could not score over Cox.

Anderson grabbed the rebound and with 2.2 seconds left, Christian Estes canned a pair of free throws to set the final score. A desperation heave by Owen at the buzzer fell well off the mark.

Estes and Austin Cummins led Anderson with 12 points while Smith scored 11.

Anderson, now 22-4 on the year, moves on to play two-time defending regional champ Oldham County in the tournament semi-finals Friday night at 6:30. Oldham earned a convincing 61-44 win over Grant County Monday's first game.
