Jay Smith scored 20 points while Christian Estes and Austin Linzy tallied 10 each as anerson County defeated Garrard County, 59-52, in boys' basketball action Friday night in Lancaster. Anderson improved to 2-0 while Garrard fell to 0-3.

Anderson jumped out to an early 12-4 lead, but the Bearcats were never quite able to shake the Golden Lions.

“They went to a 2-3 zone and we shot some quick shots,” said Anderson assistant coach Bryan Hyatt. “Our impatience led to several easy baskets for them. We didn't do a very good job getting back defensively.”

Garrard blistered the nets in the first half, hitting 10-of-15 shots, but Anderson still led, 28-25, at the half.

“Garrard does a good job in their transition offense and revealed a transition-defense weakness,” Hyatt said.

“It was a good win for us. We learned some stuff about our team that wasn't getting exposed in practice. Anytime you can learn on the move and still win, it's a positive.”
