Alex Payton ripped a bases-loaded, one-out single in the bottom of the 12th inning to drive in Cole Sayre and send Anderson County to a 2-1 win over visiting Spencer County Tuesday night.
It was the second straight 12-inning game for the Bearcats. The win over a district foe was also important for the 30th District Tournament seeding race.
Sayre led off the 12th with double down the left-field line, followed by an intentional walk to Granville Hayes. The Bears botched Brandon Eliadis' sacrifice bunt to load the bases, setting the stage for Payton's game-winning hit.
Anderson had scored in the fourth when Clay Guffey doubled, then scored on Brice Stockton's single, but the lead only lasted a half-inning as Spencer responded in the top of the fifth.
Steven Watts got the win in relief, striking out the side in the top of the 12th, his only inning of work. Starter Landon Case went seven innings, giving up two hits and striking out nine. Darrin Laswell worked four shutout innings in relief.
