LEXINGTON – Bryan Station jumped to a quick 9-2 lead and never looked back as the Lady Defenders whipped Anderson County 53-45 in the Martin Luther King girls’ basketball classic at Paul L. Dunbar High School on Saturday.
Anderson made several runs at the Defenders but was never able to get closer than four points in the second half. An acrobatic layup from Eriel McKee got Anderson within 47-43 with 3:21 remaining, but after Bryan Station was called for a lane violation on a free throw, Anderson blew a chance to cut things to one or two points by committing a turnover.
The Lady Bearcats committed 25 turnovers on the afternoon, many of the unforced variety, as they fell to 10-5 on the year. Bryan Station won its tenth straight and is now 12-1.
Mackenzie Cann led Anderson with 13 points.
