CAL middle school hoops success continues

The Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg boys’ middle school basketball team continues their winning ways. Saturday, the team won twice.

In the first game, the Rams played Fox Creek Christian Church. Christian Academy opened a 12-7 lead at the half. Michael Secen and Dillon Harper posted all nine CAL points in the third period, and the Rams led 21 – 13, before going on to a 31-24 win.

Michael Secen led CAL’s scoring with eight points. Dillon Harper added seven; Nathan Bain and Hunter Wells contributed six each. Chandler Royalty had four points.

In the second game, the Rams played Cornerstone Christian Academy at the Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church Simpson Center. The game was close through the first period, when the Rams led 13 – 10. However, Royalty and Harper took over in the second period, adding 17 points to make the half-time lead 30 – 19.

At the end of three quarters, the Rams led 38 – 20. Wells scored all the points for the Rams in the fourth quarter, and CAL won 46 – 23. Royalty led all scorers with 17 points. Harper and Wells ended the game with 12 points apiece. Caleb Hatton scored the game’s only 3-point basket for his three points. Nathan Bain contributed two points. This was CAL’s second win over Cornerstone this season, beating the Bulldogs 36 – 28 on Jan. 21.

The Rams first loss of the season came on a road trip to Morehead, to play Lakeside Christian Academy on Jan. 10. Harper led all scorers with 14 points but Lakeside won 31 – 23.

The Rams came back after their first loss and beat Bluegrass Baptist 18 – 11 on Jan. 13.  Royalty and Harper led CAL scoring with seven points apiece.

CAL’s only other loss also happened away from home when the Rams lost to Frankfort Christian 33 – 22 on Jan. 15. Royalty led the scoring for CAL with seven points while Bain had six and Pinkston added four.
The Rams boast a 12-2 record going into tournament season.
