Candidates set for general election

Candidates for four local elections have been set as the last day to file to run in the general election was Aug. 12.

The election will be Nov. 4.

County clerk

Republican Jason Denny will face Democrat Anthony Stratton in the race for county clerk.

Denny is a magistrate on the Anderson County Fiscal Court. Stratton is a former magistrate and judge-executive.

City council

Eight candidates filed to run for six open seats on the Lawrenceburg City Council. Those candidates are David Allen Kays, Bobby Durr, Paul Thomas "Tommy" Vaughn, Steven Rucker, Kevin Green, Larry Giles, Ken Evans and Robert "Sandy" Goodlett.

Durr, Giles, Evans and Goodlett are currently on the city council.

Rose Cunningham and Brenda Gritton are currently on the council, but will not seek re-election.

Board of education

Three Anderson County Board of Education seats are open.

Steve Higgins, the current representative from the 2nd District, and Lee Hahn, the current representative from the 5th District, are each seeking re-election and running unopposed.

Benita J. Young is running unopposed in the 1st District.

Sandi Whitaker currently represents the 1st District, but is not seeking re-election.

Soil conservation

Four candidates have filed to fill four open seats as soil conservation supervisors. Those candidates are Randy Chrisman, James B. Grider, James R. "Buddy" Smith and Marna Bollinger.
