The parishioners of Good Shepherd Parish in Frankfort will present a new musical, “Moses and the burning within,” adapted from the Old Testament Book of Exodus,  on March 6 at Kentucky State University’s  Bradford Auditorium at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The production spans the time between Moses’ birth and his crossing the Red Sea, according to a news release. This full stage production consists of 19 songs and two acts.
Good Shepherd’s rendition of this musical play is being directed by Narisa Lao, music and liturgy director for the parish, assisted by Sr. Lenore Thomas, IHM, pastoral associate and director of faith formation.
Lao, an accomplished pianist and musician, is a graduate of the Colegio dela Immaculada Conception in the Philippines.
She has trained many award-winning choral groups and was an assistant music director helping to conduct almost 2,000 voices that sang for Pope John Paul II at a mass celebrated in the Philippines during the 1980s, the news release said.
Albert Zemla will portray the lead role of Moses.
Eric Northcutt plays Moses’ brother, Aaron.
Other major characters in the play include Pharoah (James Barber), Hatshepsut (Beth Dreves), Yocheved (Barb Sauter), Zipporah (Jodi Llanora), and Miriam (Emma Bryan).
Along with Lao on keyboard, the live orchestra and chorus for the Moses production include members whose resumes include over 30 years of experience in various genres of music, members who have performed in local and Louisville based bands, and a member who has worked with such acts as Chubby Checker, The Platters, and The Lexington Singers, the news release said.
