COLUMN: Calling all pastors: Let's meet

-A A +A
By Shannon Brock

Within the next day or two, local churches and pastors will find a letter from The Anderson News in their mailboxes.

Don’t worry — it’s not a bill. And it’s not a matter of what you owe us.

Instead, it’s a matter of what we owe you.

As a community newspaper, part of our job is to inform the public about events going on in the community. That’s why you’ll find a community calendar in each issue of our paper, and two (count them — two) community calendars on our website.

We’re in the process of revamping our community calendar, and we’re also in the process of revamping the page that normally follows it — you guessed it, the church page.

Nothing against Nancy Kennedy (some of her columns have been beneficial to me on a personal level), but we think our local churches and the community as a whole will benefit more by having local announcements, events and kudos in that space.

This is where those letters come in.

I sent letters to each church in our church services directory inviting pastors (or a representative, who is asked to fill in) to an informal meeting where we will provide information on how to get your church announcements in our paper and out to the masses.

“That’s all fine and good, Shannon, but if you sent out letters, why are you writing a column about it as well?” you may wonder.

Well, I’m glad “you” asked.

Surely our records will have some errors, and surely we accidentally left someone out.

If this is the case and you receive a letter in error, I apologize. If this is the case and you do not receive a letter, but think that you should have, I assure you it was a mistake, so here are the details:

The Rev. Pete Jones at First Presbyterian Church is graciously allowing us to use the fellowship hall there on Thursday, Feb. 11 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting should only last half an hour or so.

Again, the meeting is for local pastors (or a representative from the church, if the pastor can’t make it).

All we ask is that you bring yourself, and let me know by Wednesday, Feb. 10 if you plan to attend. The best way to RSVP is to simply e-mail me at sbrock@theandersonnews.com. However, you are welcome to call our office at 502-839-6906 and ask for me as well.

The reason I ask for an RSVP is make sure we have enough information to pass out to those in attendance.

During the meeting, we will focus on the types of announcements we run and how to go about getting the information for those announcements to us.

Thanks in advance to those who plan on attending. I’ll see you Feb. 11.

And thanks to those who are not affected by this meeting for reading this far. We do this all for you and to get you the information you deserve.
