COLUMN: New columnist offers teenager’s view of Anderson County’s issues

-A A +A
By Brooke Tindall

Welcome to the teen portion of The Anderson News.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. It’s something you will enjoy and something aside from what most of you would say is boring news you don’t care about.

For this first column I’m going to introduce myself and tell you how I got this opportunity.

My name is Brooke Tindall. I am a teenager who lives in the country part of Anderson County. I am a member of Freedom Baptist Church and love going to church and being a Christian.

My hobbies include playing softball, hunting, fishing, reading, writing, helping others and going to church. I was very blessed when I got the opportunity of writing this column.

I received it by stating my opinion, which is a very important thing to do. I wrote a letter to The Anderson News in last week’s newspaper about the city’s proposed “spray garden.”

I submitted my letter to the news and they loved it, and loved the fact that I paid attention to the newspaper and stated my opinion.

I talked with the general manager and the idea came up to have a teen column, and I was asked if I could do it and I accepted. This is something I voluntarily did to help out.

I accepted this because I know that not many teens read the newspaper or get involved in the local government. I want to help get teens more interested in the news and the city and county. Teens are the future of the county and it’s important that they start helping and getting involved.

Doing so will help the county and city make better decisions.

I will address what I think is important and am willing to take suggestions. I want to know what you are interested in seeing or reading. If someone feels that there is an issue I should address, I will be glad to hear from them and do my best to address it.

I am very excited about this. I hope you (the teens) get interested in this and give me feedback and suggestions.

I am ready to help out as much as I can.

I hope this brings out the result I am looking for and I’m sure it will. Please don’t be afraid to contact me anytime about anything. I am here to help.

Thanks for your time and consideration. I hope you enjoy my columns, and I look forward to meeting the needs of teens here in the county.
