To the editor:
To the residents of Lawrenceburg and the proposed historic district:
We would like to thank all those who attended the proposed Historic District hearing on Dec. 6, 2011, especially those who spoke for or against our proposal.
We consider this as a positive response to getting our citizens involved in the day-to-day workings of Lawrenceburg. As a committee that has worked on the Historic District designation for more than two and a half years, we were pleased to hear a diversity of opinions.
We recognize that Lawrenceburg is not just a bunch of individuals, but a community of [people] that works together for the betterment of all, not just “the what’s best for me” group.
We respect the issues of property rights and growth and development. We, too, remember the vitality of Lawrenceburg during the ‘40s and ‘50s, but hopefully, are not lost in nostalgia. We are proud of our cultural heritage and wish to preserve the outstanding remnants of our history as we move together into the future. We can assure you that all input will be evaluated as we refine our proposal.
