Humane Society fundraiser to be held Jan. 21
Who: Anderson Humane Society and Edwardo’s Pizza
What: Spaghetti Dinner with AHS Board of Directors serving to generate funds (10 percent of proceeds) for low-cost spay neuter fund for the community.
When: Jan. 21, 6-8 p.m.
Where: Edwardo’s Pizza in Lawrenceburg
AHS holds a low-cost spay neuter clinic each year and provides a “coupon” for pet owners to get their pet spayed/neutered for significant discount. This event will help fund this program for the community.
Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

Anderson Public Library offers computer, yoga classes
Anderson Public Library will be offering free yoga classes on Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. All levels are welcome. Mats are provided. Space is limited to 10 patrons per class. Please reserve your spot by signing up at the circulation desk.

The Anderson County Library will offer the following free computer classes in January.  All classes are subject to cancellation, and class space is limited to five students.  Call the library at 839-6420 to sign up or contact Tami Elam at the library for more information.
Introduction to Computers
When: Jan. 22, 6-7:30 p.m.
Become more comfortable with using a computer. You will learn basic computer skills, learn to use the mouse and keyboard.
Pre-registration is required.
Introduction to the Internet
When: Jan. 24, 10-11:30 a.m.
Learn how to use and navigate the internet.  
Veterans can apply for VA claims at Legion
Veterans can file for VA claims, ask information on veteran benefits, initiate claim appeals or just have an opportunity to ask how to negotiate the VA system, according to a press release from the American Legion.
When: Fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.
Where: American Legion, Post 34, at Legion Park in Lawrenceburg.

Anderson County Extension Office offers job hunting, weight management programs

Weight the Reality
When: Jan. 17 and Jan. 24
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Where: Anderson County Extension Office
It’s not too late to get started with your weight management goals for 2013.  Three sessions remain, “Back to the Kitchen,” “Weighing in on Sleep,” “Eating Disorders,” “Becoming More Active” and “Weight Loss That Lasts.”  
Cooking for One or Two
When: Jan. 29
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Where: Anderson County Extension Office
Make household cleaning supplies from ordinary household supplies.  Save money and save the environment, too.  Work on your budget and make those dollars last to the end of the month.

The Adult Learning Center will offer special class hours Jan. 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Adult Learning Center, located at 219 E. Woodford St., is open from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Adult education offers classes in GED/College-prep instruction, educational assessment and learning workplace skills. The Bluegrass Community and Technical College offers adult education services Monday through Friday from noon until 4 p.m. Community education offers lifelong learning classes, humanities programs, Community of Promise involvement and opportunities to volunteer in the schools and throughout the community.  For information call the office at 502-839-3754.
