Community
Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

The Anderson County Library will offer the following free classes in May.
All classes are subject to cancellation, and class space is limited to five students. Students will use the library’s laptops.

Veterans can apply for VA claims at Legion
Veterans can file for VA claims, ask information on veteran benefits, initiate claim appeals or just have an opportunity to ask how to negotiate the VA system, according to a press release from the American Legion.
When: Fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.
Where: American Legion, Post 34, at Legion Park in Lawrenceburg.

Education
The Adult Learning Center, located at 219 E. Woodford St., is open from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Adult education offers classes in GED/College-prep instruction, educational assessment and learning workplace skills. The Bluegrass Community and Technical College offers adult education services Monday through Friday from noon until 4 p.m. Community education offers lifelong learning classes, humanities programs, Community of Promise involvement and opportunities to volunteer in the schools and throughout the community. The senior center will be open Friday, May 24, but will not be able to offer transportation to the center. Meals will be provided at 11:30 a.m. Staff will be taking a “Passenger Safety Class” in Frankfort.
The center will be closed Monday, May 27 for the Memorial Day holiday.

Upcoming events
Driver safety course
The Anderson Senior Center, 160 Township Square, is offering a driver safety course May 16 from 12:30-5 p.m.
The class will be taught by Don Hamrick.
“Cars have changed, so have traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads we travel every day,” event organizers said. “Even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up their driving skills.”
Participants may be eligible to receive an insurance discount upon completing the course, and should consult their agent for details. Although the course is geared to those age 60 and older, the course is open to all ages.
Cost is $12 for AARP members; $14 for non-members.
There are no tests to pass.

Trip to Maker’s Mark Distillery
The Anderson Senior Center will be taking a trip to the Maker’s Mark Distillery on Thursday, May 23. Seniors are to be at the center between 8:30-9 a.m. to leave on the bus. The cost is $3 for transportation plus the cost of the lunch buffet at the Stephen Foster buffet. Call for reservations as soon as possible.

The schedule for the summer movie series at the Lawrenceburg Green is as follows:
