Jobs Academy offers to

prepare individuals for

the local workforce

The Anderson County Adult Learning Center, in cooperation with  Anderson County Community Education, is launching the Anderson County Jobs  Academy.

The Anderson County Jobs Academy is a one week course designed to  prepare local residents for entry into the local workforce. Participants will learn job skills such as interviewing techniques, preparing a resume, teamwork and team building, basic math.

Participants will also learn life skills such as planning for work, employee responsibilities, communication skills and much more.  The first class is scheduled to begin August 23.  If you are interested in this training as a potential employee or employer, contact the adult learning center at 839-3754.

Annual Wine Fest set

for Lover’s Leap

The Lawrenceburg Rotary Club presents the annual Wine Fest at Lover’s Leap Winery Saturday, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from local Rotarians or at the gate.

Conch Republic, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band, will provide the musical entertainment in a relaxing atmosphere. 

Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets and enjoy the evening.  Food and beverages are  available for purchase at the event.  All proceeds go to fund scholarships for local high school students.

Open Hands Food Pantry

to host yard sale

Open Hands Food Pantry will host a community yard sale on Friday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 1111 Industry Road in Lawrenceburg, near the Dollar General at Hilltop. There will be clothing, household items, furniture and much more for sale.

Lawrenceburg Ghost Walk kicks off Aug. 23

The Lawrenceburg Ghost Walk debuts on 8p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. The walk will run every Saturday through Nov. 1. In October the walks will be held every Saturday and Sunday. Order tickets online at kyghosttours.com

Anderson County Extension Office Upcoming Events

•Taking Control of Your Diabetes – A six session class that begins on Tuesday, Aug. 26.  This class is recommended for anyone with Type 2 Diabetes.  If you have been recently diagnosed with diabetes or have been living with diabetes for a long time, this class will help you live healthier and manage diabetes for life.  Classes meet on Aug. 26, Sept. 30, Oct. 14 and 21, Nov. 4 and 11. The class is a free event.

•Managing Creepy Crawlies – Most of Kentucky’s insects and spiders are not harmful to people or property.  But a few can damage our homes, eat our food or even deliver dangerous bters.  Learn how to tell the “bad” bugs from the harmless ones.  Learn a few basic steps you can take to detect common indoor pests and prevent problems before they happen. The class is a free event.

Register for classes by calling the Anderson County Extension Office at 839-7271.  Classes  may be cancelled if minimum enrollment of 10 is not reached. The Anderson County Extension Office is located 1026 County Park Road, Lawrenceburg.
