The WHAS Crusade for Children was started in 1954 by WHAS-TV. It raises money for agencies, schools and hospitals to better the lives of special needs children.
Over the past six decades, more than $154 million has been raised through contributions of goods and services.
Some unique features of the Crusade are its return of 100 percent of all donations to organizations that serve special needs children in all 120 Kentucky counties and more than 50 southern Indiana counties.
Fire departments raise more than half the money each year with roadblocks and other events.
