Doss built a big lead then held off an Anderson County rally to post a 49-41 victory in Class 5A football playoff action Friday in Louisville.

The loss ended Anderson's season at 7-5. Doss moves on to play John Hardin in the Region Two finals on Friday, Nov. 28.

"I was very proud of our effort," said Anderson coach Mark Peach. "I thought we played as hard as we had all year.

With a makeshift lineup due to injuries, the Bearcats took a 7-0 lead inside the first two minutes but after a run of mistakes, found themselves down 23-7 by the end of the first quarter and 35-13 by halftime. Doss padded the lead to 42-13 early in the third quarter but fended off Anderson's rally.

The Bearcats drew within 49-41 on a pair of touchdown passtes from Jacob Russell to Grant Cox, the last one coming with 1:35 to go. On the ensuing kickoff, Anderson's B.J. Robinson picked up the loose ball and took it in for an apparent touchdown, but the officials ruled Robinson had touched the kickoff before the ball had reached 10 yards.
