Emma B. Ward Elementary School recently hosted a Family Literacy Night car show last Thursday evening, complete with box car parade, vintage vehicles and a “drive-in” movie in the gym.
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade created their own cardboard cars and voted on the best classic cars, brought by adult volunteers.
Third grader Carson Grimes, who created a flame-emblazoned vehicle, won best in show.
Students paraded their homemade cars in the Ward gym, then parked them to enjoy a series of short Pixar films for a “drive-in” movie.
According to Stacey Newton, family resource director, students could earn extra tickets for concessions and other prizes by reading additional books.
