EDITORIAL: When it comes to websites, what’s ours is actually yours

-A A +A

We’ve been making a big deal lately about our new website — or at least we’ve been trying to.
Most of the feedback we’ve received has been positive, and we’ll be the first to say it’s a lot better than where we were before.
However, one thing we haven’t been making nearly enough fuss over is how much this website isn’t so much ours as it is yours.
Yes, we provide the content, but what makes for a successful website is the interaction that takes place on it.
A full-hearted welcome and thank you goes out to those of you who have already made a home on our site. Your comments, questions and submissions are very much encouraged and appreciated.
While we could fill the majority of this page with exciting things about the website, we’ll just hit the highlights to peak your interest.
Did you know that visiting our website can be a timesaver? By pointing your browser to www.theandersonnews.com, you can sign up for or renew your subscription. You can also place a classified advertisement.
As much as we love to catch up when you swing by our office, we know that convenience is important. And what’s more convenient than taking care of errands in the comfort of your pajamas sitting on your own couch?
Of course you’re always welcome to stop by and certainly call us if you have any questions.
Another timesaver is being able to submit birth, engagement, wedding and anniversary announcements online, as well as letters to the editor, news tips and sports news. No forms, no hassle.
Also, we know our community is very passionate about animals, and our new site gives you the opportunity to showcase your proud hounds and fancy felines. Again, just visit our homepage, scroll down to the bottom and submit Fido or Fluffy as this week’s Pet of the Week.
You can share your pet’s best trick, favorite pastime and clue in your neighbors on how the two of you met. And don’t forget to attach a photo.
Last, but not least, you can have your say.
The website features a newly-designed reader forum where you can post questions and interact with other readers on a variety of topics. And let us know what you think by posting comments on our stories, too.
Don’t forget our weekly poll question. Voting isn’t quite as easy as it used to be, but it isn’t hard either. Just go to our homepage, then click on the “Opinion” link in the blue bar that runs across the top of the page. You’ll find our poll on this page, and we’d love to have your answers. Also, if you see a red, white and blue ad in the upper right hand corner of our homepage, you can click on it, too, and end up in the same location.
This Thanksgiving weekend, after your tummies are stuffed with turkey, visit www.theandersonnews.com and let us know what you think.
