Eighth Region baseball and softball tournament pairings announced

Pairings for the Eighth Region baseball and softball tournaments have been announced. Both tournaments begin Monday, May 31 at Carroll County High School.

For the baseball tournament, Anderson County, the 30th District runner-up, will play 32nd District winner Simon Kenton at 4 p.m. on Monday in a lower bracket quarterfinal.

Complete pairings are:

Shelby County (23-10) vs. Walton-Verona (23-12), 10 a.m.

Carroll County (19-10) vs. North Oldham (22-9) 1 p.m.

Simon Kenton (15-17) vs. Anderson County (18-12), 4 p.m.

Oldham County (20-11) vs. Henry County (16-12), 7 p.m.

Semifinals are Wednesday, June 2 at 5:30 and 8 p.m.

Final Thursday, June 3 at 7 p.m.

Anderson will be going for its third straight regional crown and is 2-3 against the field, defeating Henry County and Oldham County. The Bearcats lost to North Oldham and twice to Shelby County.

The softball tournament pairings are:

First round, Monday, May 31

Henry County (23-14) vs. Grant County (23-12), 10 a.m.

Anderson County (21-10) vs. South Oldham (9-20), noon

Walton-Verona (25-13) vs. Owen County (19-15), 2 p.m.

North Oldham (21-11) vs. Shelby County (18-16), 4 p.m.

Semifinals are Wednesday, June 2 at 6 and 8 p.m.

Final, Thursday, June 3 at 7 p.m.

Shelby County is the defending champions, but Anderson will be going for its second title in three years. The Lady Bearcats are 4-0 against the field, beating Shelby County three times and Owen County.

Directions to Carroll County High School from Lawrenceburg.

To get to Carroll County High School from Lawrenceburg, get on I-64 at Graefenburg, then go to the first Shelbyville exit (Exit 35). Turn right off the exit onto Highway 53.  At the McDonald's cross over U.S. 60 onto Boone Station Road, which is Highway 55.  Take Highway 55 through Eminence, until it merges with 421 North near Henry County High School. Stay on 421 through Campbellsburg and get on I-71 North (toward Cincinnati). Stay on 71 to exit 44 and turn right on Highway 227. Stay on 227 approximately three miles and the school will be on the right.
