The Anderson County Fire Taxing District joined taxing districts countywide in either keeping their tax rates flat or lowering them.
The fire district voted unanimously recently to keep its rate at 66 cents per $1,000 assessed value, a decision that will nevertheless result in an additional $7,800 thanks to an increase in the county’s overall assessment.
“Basically, looking at the overall economy, we didn’t want to throw any additional burden on folks,” said Fire Chief Mike Barnes.
