For the second consecutive year, and third time in five years, Four Roses Distillery was named “Whisky Distiller of the Year – America” last week by Whisky Magazine’s international judging panel.
The award was one of two prestigious honors received by Four Roses during the magazine’s “Icons of Whisky Awards – America” which took place in Louisville.
The annual Icons of Whisky Awards are “designed to celebrate the people and places behind the great whiskies of the world,” according to a news release.
In March 2012, Four Roses will compete as American Distiller of the Year against winners of the equivalent award in Scotland and other countries.
“The level of excitement receiving this honor two years in a row cannot be put into words,” said Four Roses Master Distiller Jim Rutledge.
“Many congratulations go out to each and every Four Roses employee – from the distillery, warehousing and bottling operations to the management and administrative staffs.
“Everyone at Four Roses deserves an equal piece of credit for our success and recognition as an industry leader.”
In addition to the 2012 Whisky Distiller of the Year – America award, Four Roses also received the award for the “Whisky Brand Innovator of the Year – 2012,” based on the private barrel selection program that enables retailers to sample from each of Four Roses’ 10 unique recipes in selecting their own barrel of bourbon to be bottled specifically for their restaurant, bar or package store.
The barrels range in age from eight to 10 years and once a selection is made, the bourbon is bottled at barrel strength.
