LEXINGTON -- Lindsay Fultz scored 30 points and Tiffany Davenport added 23 as Anderson County defeated Lafayette 71-65 Tuesday in the girls' high school basketball season opener for both teams.

Fultz shredded the host Generals with drives to the basket while Davenport zeroed in with five 3-point bombs. Fultz added 10 rebounds and six assists to pace Anderson in those categories.

The Lady Bearcats also got a huge boost from senior Taryn Terrell, who was making her first varsity start. Terrell scored a career-high 10 points and pulled down five rebounds.

The game was not as close as the final score would indicate. The Lady Bearcats took the lead with an 8-0 scoring run midway through the first quarter, then extended it to 22-12 on a Davenport bomb early in the second frame. The cushion ballooned to as much as 21 points and Anderson still led by 20 with four minutes to play before Lafayette drew close by taking advantage of some Anderson turnovers.

“This was a good win for us against a good team,” said Anderson coach Tony Kays. “We have a lot of work to do and we can learn a lot from this game.”
