Want to be a Girl Scout?
A kick-off meeting for the new Girl Scout year is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Anderson County Middle School, organizers said.
“We encourage anyone who is interested in joining girl scouts, volunteering, or just has questions to attend, organizers said.
“There will be service unit members and troop leaders on hand to answer all questions and to get new girls registered. There will also be activities similar to ones that the girls would do during troop meetings to entertain the girls.”

Coming events
Oct. 1, 22: Local troops will be set up at Kroger and Walmart from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for their annual “Scare off Hunger” event.
The girls will be excepting non-perishable food items for the Open Hands Food Pantry here in Anderson County.
Oct. 15: Scouts are sponsoring a local blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. at a location yet to be determined.
If you have a facility that you would like to allow the girl scouts to use during this time please contact Beulah Peach. Girl Scouts are signing up people to donate blood, as we are in a national shortage right now. If you would like to sign up please see your local girl scout.
Troops are now selling fall nuts and candies. Through these fundraisers the girls are learning how to set achievable goals and actually reach them, money and time management and great communication skills. This year the girls will be taking donations of nuts and candies to send to active troops. So if you would like to help your local Girl Scout troop and our soldiers this would be a great way.

Highlight of two local troops
Troop 733 will host a Bath and Body workshop on Oct. 15 from 2-4 p.m. in Lawrenceburg. This event is open to Girl Scouts all over the Bluegrass area. The girls will learn how to make their own lotions and soaps, along with many more leadership, teamwork and listening skills.
Troop 71 will host a S.W.A.P.S workshop Nov. 11.  S.W.A.P.S are hand crafted pins that the girls create then trade when they meet a new girl scout sister. This event will encourage girls to communicate and make new friendships. This event is also open to all girl scouts in the bluegrass area.
