Makenzie Cann scored 19 points and Eriel McKee added 16 as Anderson County cruised to a 59-36 win to open the season at Casey County Monday night.
Anderson jumped to a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and was never seriously threatened the rest of the way. A 21-10 outburst in the final eight minutes might have made the final score a bit more one-sided than the game really was. Cann nailed four 3-point goals in the stretch run.
As a team, Anderson got scoring from eight different players but hit only 8-of-17 free throws. Kali Whiteside grabbed 12 rebounds for the Lady Bearcats while McKee pulled in nine. McKee also had five blocks and four steals.
The Lady Bearcats, who struggled to a 63-59 win over Casey a year ago, limited Rebel star Laiken Miller to 13 points. No other Casey player scored over five points.
The Anderson junior varsity posted a 41-16 win in the opener as Corrin Robinson and Marissa Walker both scored nine points. Courtney-Gale Hawkins added 8.
