The Anderson County High School boys' golf teams swept Mercer County at Bright Leaf Golf Resort in Harrodsburg last Tuesday.
The varsity team defeated Mercer 154-173 as senior Gabe McMichael and junior Tyler Harrod led the Bearcats by shooting even par 36.
The junior varsity posted a 170-198 victory with freshman Zachary Toles also shooting a 36 to lead the way.
Anderson coach Jim Beward said he held some of his best players out of competition that day as the team entered the final two weeks of the season in preparation for the regional tournament, to be hled on Sept. 25.
“We're coming along at the right time,” Beward said. “The footsteps are getting louder.”
Saturday, the Bearcats finished third in the 19-team Danville Fall Invitational at the Danville Country Club. The Bearcats trailed host Danville and Franklin County in the team standings.
Junior Tyler Harrod finished with an even-par 72 to place third individually in the event.

The Anderson junior varsity team remained undefeated with a 12-stroke win in the Mercer County Junior Varsity Invitational at Bright Leaf last Thursday. Anderson's 158 was well ahead of Mercer County's 170. The team dedicated the tournament win to the memory of Marie Garmon, an Anderson County resident who died last week as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Tyler Brothers shot an even-par 72 to win the individual medalist honor. Josh Brown followed with a 38 while Zach Toles recorded a 41 and Trevor Morgan scored 43. Chris Sea's 44 rounded out the Bearcat scoring.
