Anderson County golfer Kaitlyn Riley must like working overtime.
The Lady Bearcat senior won a sudden-death playoff by sinking a birdie on the first playoff hole of the Region 7 Tournament, held at Danville Country Club Monday afternoon.
Riley's birdie on the par-5 first hole gave her the final state tournament berth over Judianne Speach of West Jessamine and Jane Watts of Woodford County. All shot 77 over 18 holes and were part of a four-way tie for sixth place in the individual competition. It was the third time in four years that Riley had to go to a playoff to secure the state berth.
The Anderson team finished fifth with a team score of 358.
Riley moves on to the state tournament, held at Bowling Green Country Club next Friday and Saturday. For a complete report, see the Oct. 9 edition of The Anderson News.
