Help needed for family who lost home in fire

Tim Perry is a fighter, but that doesn’t mean he and his family can’t use a helping hand.
Perry’s family lost everything in a fire last Monday afternoon that destroyed their home on Glensboro Road. Since that then he and six other family members have been living at Best Western and wondering how they will replace not only their home, but their clothes, furniture and other belongings.
“It’s just hard, it’s just really hard,” Perry said Monday afternoon, a week after his home burned to the ground. “But I will say one thing about Anderson County, they really are good people.”
The Perry family includes three small children and four adults. They all need about a week’s worth of clothing, along with shoes. (See pullout for sizes).
Donations are being accepted at The Anderson News, located at 1080 Bypass South near State Farm Insurance. Hours are Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. All items donated will be given to the Perry family.
Donations are also being accepted by a charity organization called Helping Hands-Heart of Community.” For details, call Donna Drury at 859-8080.
The loss of his lifelong family home has been difficult for Perry, who said he lived in the house that burned for 22 years and on his parents’ farm for 52.
He said he plans to rebuild on that location.
“I’m going to build it back,” he said. “It’s hard to keep a good man down.”
Perry said he has attempted to recover what he can from the home’s burned remains, but found very little.
He and his oldest grandson were able to find some photos of his late parents, along with some of his mom’s dishes.
“That’s all I could save,” he said. “The rest are kaput.”
Perry said despite the loss, he remains thankful that no one was home when the house caught fire.
