The Anderson County volleyball team shot out to an early lead then held on to beat 28th District rival Shelby County 25-20, 25-22 Tuesday night at the Anderson gym.
Playing before a raucous crowd Anderson blitzed the team that had routed the Lady Bearcats a month earlier. The Lady Bearcats never trailed in the first game, then took the lead for good midway through the second game of the set.
Anderson's win threw the district seeding race into a tie. Both teams have 4-1 district records with one match to play. Shelby, however, holds the tie-breaker advantage if the teams end up tied at the end of the season.
Anderson hosts Franklin County on Thursday, Sept. 18. For a complete report on Lady Bearcat volleyball, see the Sept. 24 edition of The Anderson News.
