Historic district public hearing to be held April 30

A public hearing regarding the creation of a Lawrenceburg historic district is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. at the Anderson County Senior Citizens Center, 160 Township Square, Lawrenceburg.
The city council voted 4-1 in its April meeting to table its final recommendation in order to hold a public hearing on the potential historic district.
The specific area under consideration for designation as an historic district includes:
• All properties fronting Main Street starting on the west side of North Main Street at 215 North Main Street and starting on the east side of North Main Street at 126 North Main Street (Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg) on the west side of North Main and follows Main Street in a southerly direction and ending on the east side of South Main at Bond and Lillard Road and on the west side of South Main at Carlton Drive;
• All properties fronting East Woodford Street beginning at the intersection of Woodford Street and Main and running east to the railroad crossing;
• All properties fronting East Court Street beginning at the intersection of Court Street and Main and running East to the railroad crossing; and
• All properties fronting College Street.
According to the city’s legal notice, all property owners affected are advised that “certain legal and property rights may be affected by the decision of the council” and all interested persons may contact the city clerk at 502-839-5372 for additional information.
The last public hearing regarding the historic district was held in December 2011.
According to historic district commission documents provided to the city council and Planning and Zoning, about 172 properties will be affected.
